The Little Rock Touchdown Club is bringing a star-studded lineup of football legends to Arkansas this September, with four speakers whose careers span college football’s biggest stages, the NFL and beyond. From Hall of Fame wide receiver Lynn Swann and Heisman Trophy-winner Doug Flutie to Arkansas coaching icon Gus Malzahn and former Razorback and future Hall of Famer Jason Peters, each week offers fans a chance to hear firsthand from some of the game’s most accomplished figures. Arkansas TV’s Arkansas Live will bring those conversations directly to viewers across the state through livestreams throughout the month.
Tuesday, Sept. 8 – Lynn Swann
Swann played wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974 to 1982. During his time with Pittsburgh, the Steelers won four Super Bowls, and he was named to three Pro Bowls. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2001. Before his pro career, Swann played football at the University of Southern California, where he was named an All-American and won the national championship in 1972. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
Monday, Sept. 14 – Gus Malzahn
Malzahn is a retired football coach and graduate of Henderson State University after starting his collegiate career as a student-athlete at the University of Arkansas. Upon graduating, Malzahn entered the coaching ranks at the high school level, starting at Hughes High School in 1991 before stops at Shiloh Christian and Springdale High School. In 2006, Houston Nutt hired Malzahn to his staff at the University of Arkansas. Malzahn then became the offensive coordinator at both Tulsa and Auburn before being named head coach at Arkansas State. The following year, Malzahn replaced Gene Chizik at Auburn until 2021, when he made his way to the University of Central Florida. Malzahn rounded out his career at Florida State University as the offensive coordinator under University of Central Arkansas graduate Mike Norvell.
Monday, Sept. 21 – Doug Flutie
Though thought to be undersized, Flutie exceeded many expectations as he won the Heisman Trophy at Boston College in 1984. After graduation, Flutie was once again considered too small to play professional football, to which Flutie proved any doubters wrong, carving out a 22-year career across the United States Football League, the NFL and the Canadian Football League. In 2007, Flutie was named the first non-Canadian to be elected to the Canada Sports Hall of Fame after a decorated eight-year CFL career with the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts.
Monday, Sept. 28 – Jason Peters
Peters played tight end at the University of Arkansas, catching 28 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns in 36 games from 2001 to 2003. In 2004, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills, where he transitioned from tight end to tackle and earned Pro Bowl selections in 2008 and 2008. The Bills dealt Peters to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, where he carved out seven more Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro selections and one Super Bowl win. The future Hall of Famer announced his retirement from the NFL in February 2025
