Programs showcase Billy the Kid, Al Capone, Bonnie and Clyde, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas TV) — Arkansas TV will air documentaries about notorious American criminals, starting each Tuesday in September at 8 p.m. The documentaries will spotlight Billy the Kid, Al Capone, Bonnie and Clyde and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, examining the lives and legacies of the legendary criminals who became enduring figures in American history and popular culture.
“Billy the Kid: American Experience” – airs Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 8 p.m.
An outlaw with a deadly reputation, Billy the Kid was gunned down by an ambitious sheriff on July 14, 1881. The felling of one of the most notorious criminals of the age was instantly national news. First demonized by the lawman who killed him, the Kid was soon mythologized by a never-ending stream of dime store romances and big-screen dramas.
“Al Capone: Icon” – airs Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 9 p.m.
Al Capone: the quintessential self-made American man, ruthless killer or both? Just his name sparks images of pin-stripe suits and bloody violence. To this day, Americans are fascinated by this celebrity gangster.
“Bonnie and Clyde: American Experience” – airs Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m.
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow both grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, yearning to escape the poverty they were born into. By the time he was 17, Clyde had graduated from committing petty theft with his brother, Buck, and was perfecting his signature crime: stealing cars.
“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: American Experience” – airs Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m.
In an era in which cold-blooded killers such as Jesse James and the Younger Brothers terrorized the American West, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and their Wild Bunch gang took a smart and methodical approach to bank and train robbery.
