Larry Foley’s ‘The Buffalo Flows: The Story of Our First National River’ anchors evening
CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas TV) — Arkansas TV highlights the Natural State’s outdoor beauty, history and wildlife Thursday, Sept. 17, with an evening of programming featuring the Buffalo River, Arkansas’s scenic waterfalls and gardens, outdoor recreation, conservation and more.
“The Buffalo Flows: The Story of Our First National River” – airs Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
The documentary by award-winning writer, director and producer Larry Foley, digs into the history of the Buffalo River outlasting the threat of being dammed, the communities that live near the river and the continued conservation efforts of preserving it.
“Exploring Arkansas: Accord Hollow Falls, Tulip Extravaganza and Prairie Grove, Hollis Store” – airs at 4:30 p.m.
Explore three unique areas of Arkansas in this week’s “Exploring Arkansas.” Visit the Ozark National Forest north of Oark and the Accord Hollow Falls – a beautiful, muti-tiered waterfall worth the hike. And journey to the annual Tulip Extravaganza at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. Then, check out one of the few original phone booths in the nation that’s still in operation and is the only such structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, located in Prairie Grove. The final segment features the Hollis Country Store in the Ouachita National Forest, a historic gathering place where locals come to shop, visit and enjoy Connie Hawks’ famous baloney sandwiches.
“From the Archives: Arkansas Outdoors” – airs at 5 p.m.
The program explores the natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities of Arkansas, featuring hunting, fishing, wildlife, camping, hiking and outdoor cooking from locations across the state. This episode features a late-season dove hunt on the Bob Schafers Farm near Lolly, a talk about the annual Christmas Bird Count in Baxter County and how it’s organized, and Phyllis Speer joins host John Philpot for “Lodge Cheesy-Venison Cornbread.”
“Naturally Wild with Steve “Wild Man” Wilson” – airs at 6 p.m.
Join lifelong Arkansas outdoor enthusiast and conservationist, Steve “Wild Man” Wilson, as he uncovers all the beauty, fun and adventure The Natural State has to offer. Each week, “Wild Man” talks with Arkansas outdoor experts to discuss everything from sportsmanship, wildlife, outdoor cooking and more. Since 1938, Arkansas’ local whitetail deer population has exploded, with an estimated 1 million white-tailed deer now calling the state home. The Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) provides an opportunity for Arkansas landowners to work with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists to evaluate their properties and develop a plan to manage and maintain the whitetail deer population.
“Arkansas Wildlife Podcast Presented by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission” airs at 6:30 p.m.
Join host and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission representative, Trey Reid, on his podcast to take a weekly, in-depth and up-to-date look into how Game and Fish manages and conserves The Natural State's fish and wildlife resources and their habitats, as well as the rules, regulations and opportunities the Commission offers from the Ozarks to the Delta.
